SALLY BUSSELL WAS KNOWN THROUGHOUT CENTRAL KENTUCKY FOR HER GREAT ATHLETIC ABILITY. HER DISTINGUISHED SOFTBALL CAREER BEGAN IN 1966 AND CONTINUED THROUGH 1986. DURING THOSE TWENTY YEARS, SALLY PLAYED ON EIGHT STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS AND FOUR NATIONAL REGIONAL WINNERS. THESE TEAMS FINISHED IN THE TOP TEN OF FIVE NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS. SALLY WAS SELECTED AS THE MVP OF SEVENTEEN TOURNAMENTS AND MADE THE ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM THIRTY-EIGHT TIMES. SHE WAS NAMED SECOND TEAM ALL-AMERICAN IN 1976 AND 1984 AND WAS THE FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN IN 1983. IN 1986, SHE WAS NAMED AS LEXINGTON’S OUTSTANDING FEMALE ATHLETE.
SALLY BUSSELL WILL BE REMEMBERED AS THE MOST OUTSTANDING FEMALE SLOW-PITCH SOFTBALL PLAYER TO HAVE PLAYED IN THE STATE OF KENTUCKY.
