JOHN RITCHEY BEGAN HIS SOFTBALL CAREER IN HIS VERY EARLY
TEENS. HE ALSO PLAYED BASEBALL IN THE BLUEGRASS LEAGUES
STARTING IN 1922 AND GAVE UP BASEBALL IN 1925 AND STARTED
PLAYING SOFTBALL.
HE WAS CONSIDERED TO BE ONE OF THE OUTSTANDING PLAYERS
IN THE STATE. AT ONE TIME, HE PLAYED ON A TEAM WHERE ALL
MEMBERS OF THE TEAM WERE RELATIVES.
JOHN UMPIRED FASTPITCH SOFTBALL FROM 1950-1966 AND AT
THE SAME TIME PLAYING FASTPITCH WITH DIFFERENT TEAMS WHO
PLAYED IN MANY STATE TOURNAMENTS. HE WAS CONSIDERED TO
BE ONE OF THE BEST UMPIRES IN THE STATE UMPIRING MANY
FASTPITCH STATE TOURNAMENTS. HE WAS SELECTED TO UMPIRE
ONE REGIONAL FASTPITCH TOURNAMENT AND ONE WORLD
FASTPITCH TOURNAMENT.
