A THREE-TIME ALL-AMERICAN, WHITEY BROWN PLAYED IN FIFTEEN ASA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS DURING A CAREER THAT BEGAN IN 1950 AND ENDED IN 1984. DURING THAT TIME, HE PLAYED FOR SOME OF THE NATION’S TOP SLOW-PITCH TEAMS, INCLUDING LANG’S PET SHOP OF COVINGTON, YORKSHIRE RESTAURANT, AND JOE GATLIFF AUTO SALES OF NEWPORT.

WHITEY, A THIRD BASEMAN, EARNED HIS FIRST ALL – AMERICAN SELECTION IN 1956, BATTING .400 AS GATLIFF WON THE MEN’S OPEN DIVISION SLOW PITCH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. HE WAS AWARDED ANOTHER ALL-AMERICAN SELECTION IN 1959, ALSO AT THIRD BASE, PLAYING FOR NATIONAL CHAMPION YORKSHIRE RESTAURANT. HIS FINAL ALL- AMERICAN SELECTION CAME IN 1964 AS GATLIFF AGAIN WON THE MEN’S OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP.

HE WAS A MEMBER OF THREE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS, TWO RUNNERS-UP, A THIRD PLACE, AND A FOURTH PLACE TEAM IN NATIONAL TOURNAMENT PLAY. THE TEAMS HE PLAYED FOR COMPILED A 36-12 RECORD IN NATIONAL TOURNAMENT PLAY. IN NOVEMBER OF 1988, RAYMOND (WHITEY) BROWN WAS ELECTED TO THE NATIONAL SOFTBALL HALL OF FAME.
