RANDALL STARTED HIS CAREER AT THE AGE OF NINE IN THE FOURTH GRADE AT SCHOOL. EVEN THOUGH HE WAS IN GRADE 4, HE MADE THE FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADE TEAM, STARTING HIS CAREER IN 1959. RANDALL PLAYED FOR BONNIEVILLE SCHOOL FROM 1959-1967.
IN 1968, HE ORGANIZED THE BONNIEVILLE BOMBERS AND WAS A PLAYER-MANAGER. IN 1970, AS A MANAGER HE BENCHED HIMSELF AS A PLAYER, ONLY MANAGED, AND PINCH-HIT WHEN HIS TEAM NEEDED A RUN. HIS LAST TIME AT BAT, AS A PINCH-HITTER, WAS THE 1972 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 7TH INNING, HE HIT A DOUBLE AND THE WINNING RUN SCORED.
HIS TEAM PLAYED IN THEIR FIRST STATE TOURNAMENT IN 1969 AND FINISHED THIRD. FROM 1969-1979 (10 YEARS) HIS TEAM WON SIX STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS. RANDALL, AS TEAM MANAGER, WON 49 GAMES AND LOST 11 IN STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENTS. HIS TEAM PLAYED TEAMS FROM 39 DIFFERENT STATES.
IN 1976, SKAGGS FORMED THE HART COUNTY TRUCKERS AND WITH THIS TEAM HE WON FOUR CONSECUTIVE STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS. AMONG HIS GREATEST THRILLS WAS GOING TO CLEARWATER. FLORIDA, TO PLAY THE CLEARWATER BOMBERS WHO WERE TEN-TIME NATIONAL CHAMPIONS. THE TRUCKERS WON 3 AND LOST 3. THE CLEARWATER BOMBERS HAD 87 CONSECUTIVE WINS AT HOME AND THE TRUCKERS STOPPED THIS STREAK BY WINNING THE FIRST GAME OF THE SERIES 3-2.
