BILL WAS ONE OF SOFTBALL‘S FINEST CENTERFIELDERS. HIS OUTSTANDING SPEED AND DEPENDABLE HITTING WON HIM MANY ALL-STAR TEAM AWARDS.
IN 1935, HE PLAYED IN THE FIRST KENTUCKY STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. AND, IN 1938, HE PLAYED WITH POHLARS OF CINCINNATI AND WON THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. IN 1940, HE PLAYED WITH COVINGTON NICK CARR’S BOOSTERS IN THE NATIONAL TOURNAMENT. FROM 1941 TO 1949, BILL PLAYED WITH THE NEWPORT SIXTH WARD BOOSTERS AND PLAYED IN 1 NATIONAL AND 2 NATIONAL REGIONALS, WINNING IN 1942 AND FINISHING 2ND IN 1946.
DURING HIS CAREER, HIS TEAM WON 7 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS, AND 3 TIMES RUNNER UP. IN 1950, HE PLAYED WITH THE NEWPORT RAMBLERS AND WON THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. IN 1949, BILL WAS VOTED THE OUTSTANDING BATTER IN THE STATE TOURNAMENT, CONSIDERED BY HIS PEERS AS ONE OF THE BEST.
