ONE OF THE PIONEERS IN WOMEN’S SOFTBALL IN KENTUCKY WAS BRENDA MONHOLLEN. SHE BEGAN PLAYING ORGANIZED SOFTBALL IN 1952 AND CONTINUED THROUGH 1980, PLAYING IN FOURTEEN STATE TOURNAMENTS AND FIVE NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS. THESE TEAMS WERE WINNERS OF THE STATE TOURNAMENT EIGHT TIMES AND FINISHED IN THE TOP TEN OF THE NATIONAL TOURNAMENT THREE TIMES.
COLLECTING M.V.P. AND ALL-TOURNAMENT HONORS THROUGHOUT HER CAREER, ONE OF HER GREATEST AWARDS WAS BEING NAMED AS THE 1976 OUTSTANDING FEMALE ATHLETE OF LEXINGTON. BRENDA HAD A CAREER BATTING AVERAGE OF .356 AND WAS ALWAYS NOTED FOR HER DEFENSIVE ABILITY. SHE WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR HER ENTHUSIASM. DURABILITY AND ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE GAME OF SOFTBALL AND LIFE ITSELF.
