DUNNIE DUNLAP WAS KNOWN IN KENTUCKY AS A TOP NOTCH CATCHER AND HITTER IN FAST PITCH SOFTBALL FOR MANY YEARS. HE WAS A RUGGED CATCHER WHOM THE PLAYERS FEARED TO SLIDE INTO. HE WAS KNOWN FOR HIS STRONG, ACCURATE ARM AND A POWER HITTER. DUNNIE CAUGHT THE BEST PITCHERS IN THE MIDWEST, SUCH AS THE MCDONALD BROTHERS (ELMER AND DON), OMER CUNNINGHAM, BILL WEST, NORB "CYCLONE" WORKEN, ETC. MANY SOFTBALL FANS AND TEAM MANAGERS CONSIDERED DUNNIE TO BE EQUAL TO BERNIE KAMPSCHMIDT WHO IS THE NATIONAL HALL OF FAME.

HE PLAYED ON FIVE KENTUCKY CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS, 1942, 1946, 1948, 1949 AND 1950. HE WAS IN THE ARMED SERVICES FROM 1943-1945. DUNNIE WAS SELECTED ON A NUMBER OF ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAMS. AFTER HIS TEAM FINISHED SECOND IN THE 1941 STATE TOURNAMENT TO KEN MACS OF LOUISVILLE, HE WAS SELECTED TO PLAY WITH KEN MACS IN THE WORLD TOURNAMENT IN DETROIT, MICHIGAN.

IN 1947. HE PLAYED WITH A SEMI-PRO TEAM, THE SOUTH BEND TOMMIES FROM NILES, MICHIGAN.
